The TRUTH About Marijuana

I support the legalization of marijuana 100% and in case you don't see eye to eye with me on the subject, lets make sure you have all the TRUE facts.

First of all, there are many people out there that claim that smoking pot causes brain damage. Studies have shown zero evidence that this is true. Another myth about marijuana is that the use of it will cause human brainwaves to flatten. "In reality, marijuana has the effect of slightly INCREASING alpha wave activity. Alpha waves are associated with meditative and relaxed states which are, in turn, often associated with human creativity."

Another misleading claim on marijuana is that it will permanently impair your short term memory. This is true only when under the influence of smoking weed. Once you're sober, the impairment on your memory disappears.

One of the most popular myths about pot is that it is a "gateway drug." This is completely false, in fact, marijuana actually tends to substitute for much more dangerous substances (alcohol, cocaine, heroine, etc). A perfect example is the affects on the drug abuse in Holland when the Dutch partially legalized marijuana in the 1970s. "Since then, hard drug use, heroin and cocaine, have DECLINED substantially. If marijuana really were a gateway drug, one would have expected use of hard drugs to have gone up, not down." Alcohol is far more harmful than marijuana. It is a poison, is physically addictive, and dulls your motor skills.

And did you know that one of the big motivations behind making marijuana illegal was actually because of hemp's potential for producing paper posed a threat to the timber and oil industries!

Here's a video you might get a giggle from ;)

I am so very glad someone else wrote about this. I haven't yet added my 2 cents about the legalization of the "wacky tobacky" but I fully agree with you. Nice inclusion of the facts that people often get WRONG. It is a naturally growing plant and shouldn't be considered illegal. I think it's just plain STUPID. Anyway, good luck on your paper. Mike

Macon! I definitely agree with you. Some people say that marijuana has no real medical uses. The truth is is that it can not only help patients deal with pain, it could also help people who are recovering from anorexia or bulimia gain their appetites back. The reason why it has such a negative connotation in our society is because the people that our country knew smoked were the native americans and the african tribes. Since people did not understand it, they considered it to be some sort of voodoo, and therefore unchristian.

I dont smoke marijuana and never have but i do agree with you on this. If people want to smoke that is their choice. I see smoking weed kinda like drinking alcohol. You should be able to do it as long as you dont drive or do anything that could cause harm to others as well as yourself. I do think it is a waist of money though. My friends back home smoke alot and i mean alot and are always broke because of it. But it is their choice.

I agree that weed is not as harmful as many make it out to be. I mean cigarettes are much more dangerous. Cigarettes cause death, weed doesn't. (Never once has there been a recorded death from marijuana). If it were between the two, cigarettes should be illegal. However I don't necessarily think weed should be legal either. No it's not deadly, but it has effects.
